Ginger is often touted as a “natural fat burner.” But what does science really say? 14 clinical trials and a meta-analysis provide measured answers.

The TRPV1 mechanism

Gingerol activates receptors TRPV1 (Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1), the same receptors activated by capsaicin in chili peppers. This activation triggers:

• Thermogenesis : +43 kcal/day of energy expenditure (Mansour et al., 2012)
• Activation of brown adipose tissue
• Increased lipolysis (fat release)
