Gimber N°2 Brut: 50% less sugar, but how much exactly?

Gimber launched its N°2 Brut version, presenting it as the “less sweet” option. 50% less sugar, that's what the label promises. But 50% less than what?

The simple calculation

The Gimber N°1 Original contains 34g of sugar for 100ml of concentrate. This is verified on gimber.com. The cane sugar is the 2nd ingredient after ginger (33%).

50% of 34g = 17g of sugar per 100ml. Gimber N°2 Brut therefore contains around 17g of sugar per 100ml of concentrate.

The biochemical problem

17g of sugar per 100ml is better than 34g. But ginger is sought after for its properties anti-inflammatories. Sugar activates NF-κB, ginger inhibits it. Even with 50% less sugar, you are consuming a significant inflammatory dose.

The real one alternative : zero sugar added
