Ginger and blood pressure: effects on ginger hypertension
Ginger reduces systolic blood pressure by 6–8 mmHg and diastolic by 4 mmHg according to a 2019 meta-analysis (Phytomedicine, 6 studies, 310 patients). The effect is significant for doses of 2–4 g/day for at least 8 weeks. It does not replace prescribed antihypertensives.

Cardiovascular mechanisms of action
- Vasodilation: ginger inhibits calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells (a mechanism similar to medicinal calcium channel blockers)
- Mild diuretic: slightly increases renal sodium excretion, reducing blood volume
- Antiplatelet: reduces platelet aggregation, improving blood fluidity
- Anti-atherosclerotic: reduces LDL oxidation and vascular inflammation
