Migraine affects 15% of the population. The ginger is traditionally used against headache. What does science say about it?

Maghbooli et al. (2014) : 100 migraine patients randomized between 250mg of ginger powder and 50mg of sumatriptan (standard drug treatment). Result: comparable effectiveness in reducing pain intensity, with lessside effects for the ginger.

Potential mechanisms

• Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis (via COX-2) — mechanism painkiller
• Serotonergic effect (5-HT3) — relevant for nausea migraineurs
• Reduction ofanti-inflammatory-inflammation-natural-remedy">neurogenic inflammation

Important Limitations

The Maghbooli study is unique and small (n=100). Larger studies are needed. Ginger should not replace medical treatment for migraine without medical advice.

NRTI in the prevention of migraines

Taking an INTI shot daily (ginger + turmeric + turmeric-black-pepper-synergy-benefits">black pepper) is part of a preventive anti-inflammatory approach. Turmeric also has documented anti-nociceptive properties.
