The ginger against the ginger-natural-headache-relief-alternative-medication-2026">migraines: what the research says

Migraines affect 15% of the world's population. Triptans are effective but have side effects. Ginger could be a promising alternative.

The key study

Maghbooli et al. (2014) — Randomized, double-blind trial comparing 250 mg of ginger powder to sumatriptan (reference triptan). Result: comparable effectiveness to reduce the severity of migraine, with significantly fewer side effects.

The mechanism

  • Ginger inhibits prostaglandin synthesis (via COX-2) — same mechanism as NSAIDs
  • Anti-serotonin action — similar to triptans
  • Bonus anti-nausea effect — migraines are often accompanied by nausea

The turmeric as reinforcement

Curcumin has its own anti-migraine properties via inhibition of NF-κB and modulation of serotonin. The ginger + association turmeric covers more pathways than each ingredient alone.

Without sugar, of course

Sugar can trigger migraines in sensitive people (blood sugar peak → crash → migraine). A ginger shot with 34g of sugar/100ml could be a trigger rather than a cure.

INTI — ginger + turmeric + black pepper, zero sugar added. A preventative shot in the morning can help reduce the frequency of migraines.
