Ginger for Children: Dosage, Benefits, and Safety

Parents are increasingly looking for natural alternatives to medications for their children. The ginger is used in pediatrics in many cultures — here's what the science says about safety and dosage suitable for children.

From what age can ginger be given?

Most pediatricians and herbalists consider dietary ginger safe for ages 2 and up in small quantities. Before 2 years, avoid supplementation — the diet can include ginger in small quantities in dishes from 12-18 months.

Validated pediatric indications

• Nausea and ginger motion sickness : the most documented in pediatrics. Dose: 250mg for 20-30kg, 30-60 min before the trip
• Stomach aches and digestive cramps : mild spasmolytic effect, well tolerated
• Viral nausea (gastroenteritis) : helps control vomiting without medication
• Cold and congestion : antiviral and decongestant properties

Dosage for children

Age	Maximum dose	Recommended format
2-5 years	100-150mg/day	ginger infusion light, ginger and honey if > 1 year
6-11 years old	250mg/day	Infusion, diluted juice
12+ years	500-1000mg/day	As an adult, reduced dose

INTI Drink and children

INTI Drink is concentrated — it should be heavily diluted for children. Half a teaspoon (2.5ml) in 300ml of water = appropriate dose for 6-12 years. no added sugar (1.19g/100ml): no cavities, no glycemic peak.

⚠️ comparison INTI vs GIMBER (~34g/100ml) is not recommended for children due to its high sugar content — especially for daily use.

Precautions

• Avoid high doses in children with bleeding disorders
• Always dilute — concentrated ginger can irritate children's stomachs
• Consult a pediatrician before regular therapeutic use
