🛒 I discover INTI — less than €1/dayGinger: a little-known ally against type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes affects 537 million adults worldwide (IDF, 2024). Insulin resistance, a central mechanism of disease, is directly influenced by chronic inflammation — exactly where ginger excels.
What clinical trials show
A meta-analysis by Zhu et al. (Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2018) compiled 10 randomized clinical trials (593 diabetic patients) and concluded that ginger supplementation significantly reduces:
- Fasting blood sugar : -18.8 mg/dL on average
- HbA1c : -0.45% (glycemic control indicator over 3 months)
- Fasting insulin : significant reduction
- HOMA-IR : improvement of insulin sensitivity
The anti-diabetic mechanisms of ginger
| Mechanism | Action of gingerol | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| AMPK activation | Activates the cellular “energy sensor” → increases glucose absorption | Li et al., Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, 2012 |
| GLUT4 translocation | Increases glucose transporters on the surface of muscle cells | Son et al., 2015 |
| NF-κB inhibition | Reduces inflammation that causes insulin resistance | Grzanna et al., 2005 |
| PPARγ modulation | Improves insulin sensitivity of adipocytes | Sekiya et al., 2004 |
| α-glucosidase inhibition | Slows the absorption of carbohydrates (like acarbose) | Rani et al., 2012 |
The deadly sugar paradox
Giving a shot of ginger with 34 g of sugar to a diabetic is a medical contradiction. Here's why:
- 34 g of sugar/100 ml causes a glycemic peak of +80-120 mg/dL
- This requires massive insulin secretion — exactly what exhausted pancreatic β cells can no longer provide
- The resulting hyperglycemia causes glucotoxicity, further damaging β cells
- The anti-diabetic benefit of ginger (-18.8 mg/dL) is canceled 5× by the sugar peak
INTI, with 1.19 g of sugar per 100 ml, provides the anti-diabetic benefits of ginger without disrupting blood sugar levels.
FAQs
Can ginger replace anti-diabetic medications?
No. Ginger is a supplement, not a substitute for metformin or other prescribed treatments. Always consult your doctor before changing your treatment.
How much ginger per day for blood sugar control?
Studies show significant effects with 1-3 g of ginger per day for at least 8 weeks. INTI provides a concentrated dose in a convenient format.
Does turmeric also help with diabetes?
Yes. Curcumin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces pancreatic inflammation. Combined with ginger and black pepper (for bioavailability), the effect is synergistic.
