Turmeric against arthritis : what clinical studies really show

Arthritis affects more than 10 million Belgians. The turmeric is often presented as a anti-inflammatory ginger natural — but what does science really say?

Clinical evidence

Meta-analysis Paultre et al. (2021) : 11 clinical trials on curcumin in osteoarthritis → significant reduction in pain and improvement in joint function compared to placebo.

Daily et al. (2016) : Meta-analysis of 8 trials → curcumin significantly effective against arthritis pain, without side effects major.

Mechanism: ginger-nf-kb">NF-kB and COX-2

Curcumin inhibits:

• NF-kB (central pro-inflammatory factor)
• COX-2 (prostaglandin enzyme, target of classic anti-inflammatories)
• TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 (inflammatory cytokines)

These mechanisms are similar to some anti-inflammatory drugs, without the effects ginger gastroenteritis-intestinal.

The problem of bioavailability: piperine essential

Curcumin alone is very poorly absorbed. The most effective studies use curcumin combined with piperine (black pepper) — exactly the INTI formula.
