Ginger and acne: anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial role of gingerol

Ginger and acne: anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial

[6]-gingerol inhibits Cutibacterium acnes and blocks NF-κB in keratinocytes — the two main mechanisms of inflammatory acne.

Acne is inflammatory: act on the cause

  • C. acnes → TLR2/NF-κB activation → cytokines (IL-8, TNF-α)
  • Gingerol: inhibits NF-κB AND bactericidal against C. acnes
  • Zingerone: skin antioxidant, protects sebaceous lipids
  • 5-alpha-reductase: gingerol reduces testosterone→DHT conversion (less sebum)

Why INTI's low sugar content matters

Acne is strongly correlated with the dietary glycemic index (Cordain et al., 2002). INTI contains:

  • 1.19g sugar/100ml (ultra low)
  • Organic erythritol: glycemic index 0
  • No free fructose or refined sugar

→ No insulinemic peak → no androgen stimulation → less sebum

Expected results with INTI

  • Weeks 1-2: reduction of redness of existing lesions
  • Weeks 3-4: fewer new lesions
  • Months 2-3: improvement in overall skin texture
