Ginger and Fever: What It Can (and CAN'T) Do

“Ginger lowers fever”: let’s qualify that right away. Ginger does NOT replace paracetamol — it doesn't drop the temperature like an antipyretic. But during an ordinary viral fever, it has a real comfort role: hydration, nausea, throat.

🌡️ The Real Role (comfort, not treatment)

• Let's be clear: no drink “breaks” a fever the way a medicine does. Fever is a defense reaction; you relieve it mainly if it bothers you (paracetamol per pharmacist advice)
• Hydration, the priority: fever loses water (sweating). Drinking +++ is essential; a lukewarm ginger infusion helps you drink and comforts
• The traditional diaphoretic effect: ginger is reputed “warming/sweat-inducing” — hence its ancestral use in hot infusion during chills (comfort, not proof of a strong antipyretic effect)

• Rest: no drink replaces stopping and sleeping

⚠️ Fever isn't to be taken lightly: see a doctor promptly if it exceeds 39-40°C, lasts more than 3 days, comes with neck stiffness, breathing difficulty, confusion, a rash, or in an infant/elderly/immunocompromised person.
