Ginger for Joint Pain and Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis affects millions of people. Conventional anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) provide relief but can damage the stomach. Ginger offers a promising alternative.
Clinical Evidence
- Altman & Marcussen (2001) — Ginger showed comparable efficacy to ibuprofen in reducing knee osteoarthritis pain.
- Bartels et al. (2015) — Meta-analysis: ginger significantly reduces pain and disability in osteoarthritis.
- Mechanism — Gingerols inhibit COX-2 (same target as ibuprofen) and NF-κB, without damaging the gastric lining.
Turmeric Amplifies the Effect
Curcumin also inhibits COX-2 but adds LOX inhibition and additional action on NF-κB. Combined with ginger, the anti-inflammatory spectrum of turmeric is broader.
Beware of Sugar
Sugar aggravates joint inflammation via NF-κB. A ginger shot with 34g of sugar/100ml can paradoxically worsen your pain.
The Optimal Formula
INTI — ginger + turmeric + black pepper (×20 absorption), zero added sugar. One shot per day, in addition to your medical treatment.
