Ginger and psoriatic arthritis: autoimmune joint inflammation

The ginger reduces inflammatory markers (CRP, IL-17, TNF-α) involved in psoriatic arthritis by targeting pathways NF-κB and JAK-STAT — the same pathways targeted by biotherapies (adalimumab, ixekizumab) but with much lower potency. It is relevant as a complement, not a substitute.

Psoriatic arthritis: a dual-component disease

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) combines:

• Inflammatory arthritis (joints : fingers, toes, spine)

• Skin psoriasis (plaques)
• Dactylitis (“curved finger”)

Clinical data on inflammatory arthritis

• Study Zhu et al. (2022): 500 mg ginger/day for 12 weeks → CRP -28%, DAS28 (PR activity score) -22% vs placebo
• Study Naderi et al. (2023): ginger association + turmeric → significant reduction in joint pain scores (p<0.05)
