Ginger detox: what's real and what's marketing
"Detox" is one of the most overused words in health marketing. But ginger does have real, evidence-based effects on liver function and metabolic clearance.
What's real
- Hepatoprotection — Multiple studies show ginger extracts protect liver cells from oxidative damage (Bardi et al., 2013).
- Phase II enzyme activation — Ginger compounds activate glutathione S-transferase and other Phase II detoxification enzymes.
- Bile production — Ginger stimulates bile flow, which is essential for fat-soluble toxin elimination.
- Anti-inflammatory — By reducing liver inflammation (via NF-κB inhibition), ginger supports overall liver function.
What's myth
- "Ginger flushes toxins in 24 hours" — No. Detoxification is an ongoing process.
- "Ginger juice cleanses" — Usually high-sugar concoctions that cortisol-calmer-naturellement-2026">stress the liver more than help it.
The sugar paradox (again)
Excess sugar is one of the primary drivers of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). A "detox" drink with 34g sugar/100ml is actively harming the organ it claims to support.
INTI — triple formula, zero added sugar. Supports real liver health without the sugar burden.
