Ginger and testosterone: the clinical evidence
Several clinical studies have investigated ginger's effects on male hormonal health. The results are intriguing.
The evidence
- Banihani (2018) — Review of human and animal studies: ginger supplementation increased testosterone levels in the majority of studies.
- Mechanisms — Ginger may increase testosterone by: enhancing luteinizing hormone (LH) production, reducing oxidative cortisol-calmer-naturellement-2026">stress in the testes, and improving testicular blood flow.
- Fertility — A 2012 study found that 3 months of ginger supplementation improved sperm count, motility, and morphology in infertile men.
The sugar problem for testosterone
Sugar is one of testosterone's worst enemies:
- Glucose ingestion reduces testosterone by 25% for up to 2 hours (Caronia et al., 2012)
- Insulin resistance (from chronic sugar) impairs Leydig cell function
- Sugar-driven inflammation inhibits the HPG axis
